द्वारा डा नितीश प्रियदर्शी भूवैज्ञानिक रांची पिछले कुछ वर्षों में औद्योगिकीकरण एवं शहरीकरण के कारण भारत कि प्रमुख नदियों में प्रदूषण का बोझ बढ गया है। सिंचाई , पीने के लिए , बिजली तथा अन्य उद्देश्यों के लिए पानी के अंधाधुंध इस्तेमाल से चुनौती काफी बढ गयी है। गंगा और यमुना सदियों से करोड़ों लोगों के लिए व उनसे कई गुना अधिक जल - जीवों , पशु - पक्षियों के लिए जीवनदायिनी भूमिका निभाती रही हैं पर हाल के सालों में इन नदियों पर अधिक चर्चा इनके प्रदूषण और इन पर मंडरा रहे अन्य खतरों के संदर्भ में हुई है। पिछले कुछ सालों में सरकारी , गैर - सरकारी स्तर पर इन नदियों की रक्षा के लिए कुछ प्रयास भी आरंभ हुए हैं। गंगा व यमुना एक्शन प्लान इस उद्देश्य के लिए ही बनाए गए। पर इसमें सीमित सफलता ही मिल पाई है। 11 वीं योजना के दस्तावेज ने मार्च से जून 2006 के आंकड़ों के आधार पर बताया है कि कन्नौज से इलाहाबाद तक अभी गंगा का पानी स्नान करने योग्य गुणवत्ता को भी ...

 The Dassam Fall is a natural cascade across the Kanchi River. by Dr. Nitish Priyadarshi Geologist A waterfall is a place where water flows over a vertical drop in the course of a stream or river. Waterfalls are also called cascades. Waterfalls are commonly formed when a river is young. At these times the channel is often narrow and deep. When the river courses over resistant bedrock, erosion happens slowly, while downstream the erosion occurs more rapidly. As the watercourse increases its velocity at the edge of the waterfall, it plucks material from the riverbed. Whirlpools created in the turbulence as well as sand and stones carried by the watercourse increase the erosion capacity. This causes the waterfall to carve deeper into the bed and to recede upstream. Often over time, the waterfall will recede back to form a canyon or gorge downstream as it recedes upstream, and it will carve deeper into the ridge above it. The state is land locked and it shares its boundary with Orissa on the southeast, Chattisgarh on the southwest, Bihar on the north, West Bengal on the east and Uttar Pradesh on the northwest. It comprises of the Chotanagpur Plateau, which forms a part of Deccan bio-geographic province. It is a hilly undulating plateau characterized by predominantly tropical forests and tribal settlements. The State is endowed with natural resources that need to be conserved and utilized in a sustainable manner for all-round development of the state in general and the marginalized tribal population in particular.
